The Tesla Roadster is finally heading toward another major reveal, nearly nine years after Tesla first introduced the second-generation electric sports car. Tesla has set October 1, 2026 for the next Roadster reveal in Texas, while reservations have now reopened with a $50,000 deposit.

The timing has brought the long-delayed electric supercar back into the spotlight. Tesla is expected to reveal more about the car’s final design, performance, pricing and production plans during the October event. However, several important details are still not confirmed.

Tesla Roadster Reveal Set for October 1

Tesla announced the new reveal date through a teaser showing the date “10.01” along with the words “Go for launch.” The event is scheduled for October 1, 2026, in the Waco, Texas area.

The second-generation Roadster was originally unveiled in November 2017. Tesla initially targeted production around 2020, but the car was repeatedly delayed.

Almost nine years later, the company is preparing to show the next-generation Roadster again, this time with expectations that the production-spec version will finally be revealed.

Tesla’s own Roadster page continues to list ambitious performance targets for the electric sports car.

Tesla Reopens Roadster Reservations for $50,000

The latest development is the reopening of Tesla Roadster reservations.

Tesla is currently asking prospective buyers for a $50,000 reservation commitment ahead of the October reveal. According to reporting on the new reservation process, $5,000 is paid initially by card, followed by a $45,000 wire transfer within 10 days.

This is notable because Tesla is accepting the reservation before the production version has been publicly revealed.

The company also accepted $50,000 reservations when the Roadster was first announced in 2017. Those original reservation holders have been waiting for years as the project went through multiple delays.

What Performance Has Tesla Promised?

Tesla’s current official Roadster page lists some extremely ambitious targets.

According to Tesla, the Roadster is designed to achieve:

  • 0–100 km/h: 2.1 seconds
  • Top speed: 400+ km/h
  • Range: 1,000 km
  • Seating: Four
  • Powertrain: All-electric
  • Roof: Removable glass roof

These figures are still best treated as Tesla’s stated targets, rather than independently verified production-car results.

The original Roadster concept was also promoted with a claimed 0–60 mph time of 1.9 seconds, a range of around 620 miles and a top speed above 250 mph. Autocar India reported that Tesla’s latest teaser shows a significantly more dramatic rear design, including a large rear wing, full-width lighting and four rear nozzles.

Could the Tesla Roadster Actually Hover?

One of the most unusual parts of the Roadster story is Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s repeated references to SpaceX-related cold-gas thrusters.

The latest teaser appears to show hardware associated with the previously discussed SpaceX option package. Musk has previously suggested that such technology could improve acceleration, braking, cornering and other performance characteristics.

However, exactly how the system will work on a production car remains unclear.

Reports have also suggested that the October demonstration could include a highly unusual performance display. Until Tesla officially explains the system and shows the production vehicle, these details should be treated as claims or reported plans, rather than confirmed production specifications.

Tesla Roadster Price Is Still Not Confirmed

Despite the reservation reopening, Tesla has not yet provided a final confirmed retail price for the production Roadster.

The $50,000 payment is a reservation deposit, not the final purchase price of the car. The final price and production configuration are expected to become clearer around the October 1 reveal.

This is one of the biggest questions surrounding the new Roadster because the original 2017 concept was positioned as a high-performance electric supercar.

For buyers considering a reservation, the important distinction is that a deposit does not by itself confirm the final price, delivery date or exact production specification.

When Will Tesla Roadster Production Begin?

Production timing remains another major question.

Tesla has repeatedly delayed the Roadster since its 2017 announcement. Recent reporting says Musk has previously indicated that production could follow the major reveal by around 12 to 18 months, although that should not be treated as a confirmed customer-delivery schedule.

That means the October event is important not only because Tesla will show the car, but also because buyers will want clearer information about when actual production cars will reach customers.

What We Expect From the October 1 Reveal

The October 1 event could answer several major questions surrounding the Tesla Roadster:

  • What does the final production car look like?
  • What will the Roadster cost?
  • Are Tesla’s original performance targets still valid?
  • What is the final battery and range specification?
  • Will the SpaceX-inspired thruster technology be offered?
  • When will production begin?
  • When can reservation holders expect deliveries?

Tesla’s official website currently confirms the headline performance targets, but several production details remain undisclosed.

Why the Tesla Roadster Is Back in the Spotlight

The Roadster is important to Tesla’s product history because the original model was the company’s first production car.

The second-generation model was announced in 2017 as a much more ambitious electric sports car. Since then, Tesla has focused heavily on higher-volume vehicles and newer projects, while the Roadster remained delayed.

The October reveal therefore represents another major moment for a vehicle that has spent years in development.

The newly reopened reservations have added another layer of interest because buyers are now being asked to commit money again before the production version has been fully shown.

QuickBuzzr Take

The Tesla Roadster is no longer just an old concept waiting for an update. Tesla now has a confirmed October 1, 2026 reveal date, a new teaser and reopened reservations.

But the biggest questions remain unanswered: the final price, production timeline and whether Tesla’s most ambitious Roadster performance claims will become reality.

October 1 should provide much more clarity on what Tesla is actually preparing to put into production
