Japan vs India: Japan Bowled Out for 57

India won the toss and chose to field first at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin.

Japan found it difficult to score against India’s bowling attack. The Indian bowlers kept the pressure on and prevented Japan from building the partnerships needed for a competitive total.

Shree Charani was the standout bowler. She finished with 4/10 from four overs, including two maiden overs. Shafali Verma also contributed with the ball, taking 2/13.

Japan were eventually bowled out for 57 in 19.5 overs. Ayaka Kato-Stafford was Japan’s highest scorer with 25 runs from 47 balls.

Charani’s spell was one of the biggest turning points of the match.

She kept Japan’s batters under pressure and picked up four wickets while conceding only 10 runs. Her performance helped India restrict Japan to a total that gave the batting side very little room for error.

India’s other bowlers also kept things tight, with Shafali taking two wickets and Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil taking one each.

Shafali Verma Finishes the Chase in Five Overs

India needed only 58 runs to win, and Shafali Verma made the chase extremely quick.

She smashed an unbeaten 40 off just 15 balls, including six fours and two sixes. Her aggressive innings immediately put Japan under pressure.

India did lose two wickets during the chase. Gunalan Kamalini was dismissed for a duck, while Bharti Fulmali scored six. But the early wickets did not slow India down.

Richa Ghosh joined Shafali and remained unbeaten on 12 from six balls.

Shafali then hit the winning six as India reached 59/2 in exactly five overs.

India Win With 90 Balls to Spare

The eight-wicket victory was completed with 90 balls remaining, making it one of India’s most dominant T20I wins by balls remaining.

The result also marked a strong start to India’s Asian Games title defence. The team had entered the competition as the women’s cricket champions from the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games.

India Women Reach the Asian Games Semi-Final

The win sent India Women into the Asian Games 2026 semi-final, where they were scheduled to face Bangladesh Women on September 20.

The other semi-final was between Pakistan Women and Sri Lanka Women.

India’s comfortable quarter-final victory gave them momentum heading into the next stage of the tournament.

Why the Japan vs India Match Was So One-Sided

The difference between the two teams was clear in both innings.

Japan struggled to score consistently and lost wickets before reaching a competitive total. India’s bowling attack kept the scoring rate under control throughout the innings.

The chase was then transformed by Shafali Verma. Her 15-ball 40 meant India needed only five overs to complete the match.

The combination of Charani’s four-wicket spell and Shafali’s explosive batting gave India complete control of the quarter-final.

What Stood Out for India?

India’s performance was strong in both departments.

The bowlers restricted Japan to just 57, while the batters finished the chase inside the powerplay. Shafali’s contribution was particularly notable because she made an impact with both bat and ball.

For Japan, Kato-Stafford’s 25 was the only score above 20, while the rest of the batting lineup struggled to maintain a scoring partnership.

The result also gave India a place in the last four without having to spend significant time at the crease during the chase.
